Create World of Magic, Elves, and Human

Wizards in Young Adult Fantasy Gaelen’s Gold

Grand Prairie, TX – The father-daughter team of Max and Kellsie Flowers, writing as M.K. Flowers, announce the release of their young adult fantasy novel, Gaelen’s Gold (ISBN 978-0-9832429-0-1). The first in a series of three novels, Gaelen’s Gold tells the story of Gaelen, a sixteen-year-old human girl with magical powers, who has been raised by a family of dwarves. When Gaelen’s capabilities become known to the high elves in the Emmerlee Forest, she is hunted by trackers of mana or magic, sent from the elven High Council. Filled with mystical creatures of all types, including dragons, goblins, fairies, stone giants, elves, dwarves, and wizards, Gaelen’s Gold is a study in the battle to control mana and the destruction waged by age-old prejudice and fear.

Similar to Avatar, the Inheritance Cycle series, and Lord of the Rings, Gaelen’s Gold is a wonderful fantasy adventure suitable for both children and adults.  Joyfully written and carefully structured, Gaelen’s Gold introduces readers of all ages to the forest of Emmerlee, a world where human wizards almost destroyed the land by draining its magic. When a common elf, Elaeh, finds a magic box containing a human child, he brings her to the dwarven couple, Borlen and Korra, a blacksmith and his wife, who raise the child they name Gaelen as their own. Spirited and intelligent, Gaelen faces discrimination from the other dwarves because she is a human. Working in her adoptive family’s blacksmith shop, Gaelen secretly creates a magical sword of great power, which violates elven law forbidding use of magic by humans. She is captured by a group of elves and taken through the forest to be sentenced by the High Council. Gaelen charms those escorting her and suffers attempts on her life from the jealous young female elf, Donareal. Gaelen’s blossoming attraction to Elaeh, her struggle to thwart the efforts of the elves who seek her death and her attempt to convince the High Council to heal the rift between elves and mankind delivers page-turning suspense and ultimate satisfaction for fantasy readers of all ages.

The novel originated as a story for my son, Grant, who we lost in a skiing accident ten years ago," said Max Flowers. “Grant loved fantasy and science fiction, so my daughter and I decided to honor his memory by creating a series he would love. We wanted something we could do together, and writing Gaelen’s Gold soon became a family affair. The time spent creating Gaelen’s story helped ease the empty hours as we worked together to lead Gaelen through her journey of self-discovery."

Max and Kellsie Flowers live in Texas, where Max works as an engineer, and Kellsie attends college. The author of a series of scientific laboratory books and holder of six U.S. patents, Max enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, traveling, and playing games. Kellsie is pursuing degrees in biology and genetics and enjoys participating in her college marching band, painting, and spending time with friends. They are currently working on the next book in the Gaelen’s Gold series.
